[Opinions] WDYTO Richard?
Does Richard ever pop into your mind? thoughts about Richard? Nicknames include Richie & Ritchie. I detest Ricky but I'll tolerate Ric... even Dick / Dicky to an extent....

Can’t say it’s ever popped to mind, but I do respect it as a solid, handsome name, though not a personal favorite. When I read your question, the first association that came to mind was my young cousin who bears it in the middle slot. The second was Christopher Reeves’ character in the film, “Somewhere In Time”.

I was thinking about the name Richard just last week or maybe the week before. There were two Richard's I grew up knowing who were family friends who I viewed as uncles. One went by Killer because he was so klutzy he had injured himself and others before, I still see him every so often. The other mostly went by Richard but sometimes Rick or his last name Morgan, he unfortunately died a few years ago from cancer.I like the name Richard with no nickname, it is only a little dated, I think it mostly sounds regal like Richard the Lionheart but it isn't too pretentious. I like Ric/ Rick and Ricky well enough. I have love/ hate feelings towards Dick and Richie, I don't like Dicky or Rich.My husband has a grand-uncle named Richard who only goes by Dick and he unfortunately is a bit of a Dick - he stole money from his elderly mother when he was in charge of her finances. So I doubt we'll ever use the name Richard and if we did it would only be as a mn.

Double post, ignore.....I was married to a Richard. The marriage didn't go all that well. He was what probably would be called emotionally abusive these days. Even so, I think of him with a certain degree of nostalgia. So yes, Richard pops into my mind and I actually like it even with all things considered. He went by Rich but I never used that, preferring Richard.

It's not really a name I think of, and I'm afraid u think it's painfully dull. Richie reminds me of It, which is a neutral association since I've neither seen the films nor read the book. I actually think Dick makes an okay nickname, shame it's not usable nowadays for obvious reasons.

Richard was my go-to male name for many years, mainly for honoring purposes. It's a family name: my paternal grandfather (goes by Rich); as well as my paternal grandmother's father (Dick), her brother (Rick), and his son (Ricky, and later Rick). (My grandma was surrounded by Richards.) My great-grandpa died when I was four, but I have very fond memories of him; and I have a very good relationship with my grandpa. (I like my great-uncle and cousin, too, but I see them less often.) I think the likelihood of me naming my son Richard, if I ever had a son, would be very high.My favorite nickname would be Rick (Ricky when he's a kid - like what my cousin did). Dick was a valid nickname back in my great-grandpa's day, but, sadly... I keep looking back on what I just typed and wondering whether I should censor that nickname...

I like Richard a lot. I'd never consider using it for ln reasons, but I'd like to see more Richard people of all ages. And I like it best as Richard; none of the nns are nearly as good.

I want to like it, I really do, but it does sound like a stuffy old man.
