Kathleen is very sweet and seems lighter than Katherine. I chose Katherine for my eldest dd since it felt more timeless, yet Kathleen is pretty timeless as well. I only recall knowing one, Kathleen Grace (Katie), who was my middle dd's friend in school.

It is a bit dowdy and dated, but I like dowdy and dated. I think it’s prime for a comeback as Caitlin, Kaitlyn et al. decline. It’s a good classic that I just can’t see completely going away.

I still find it dated, more so than Katherine / Catherine which are classics. Kathleen feels less classic to me, more middle-aged mom.

I like it. I don't know whether I like Kathleen or Kathleena better.

It's a welcome change from all the Catherine, etc, names that have been so super-popular for so long. But I'm not very keen on Irish names in general, and not keen at all on most names ending in -een or -ine or -ene. It would be interesting to meet a young Kathleen; where I live it's elderly at best. But I wouldn't weep if it disappeared for ever.

It's dated but otherwise decent enough. I just can't imagine it on someone young.

I like it. It seems refreshing at this point.

I really like Kathleen. It's fresher-feeling than Katherine, though not as stylish as Kaitlyn. I would use it for a middle name.

I thinks it's very boring. At least Katherine and Catherine offer the nicknames Kate / Cate, Kitty, or Cat.

Kathleen was my mom's name, and if next baby is a girl it will be one of her middle names. I like it but dislike the nickname Kathy.

I find it a bit dowdy and dated too, but I think that's a minor thing. If I met a little Kathleen, I wouldn't recoil in horror or anything. I wouldn't use it for a contemporary story because it does sound a bit out of place since it was used quite a bit more prominently in a different decade. However, if someone loved it for a baby, I don't think they should have to not use it.
