Well, the worst I can say about it is Tar-Ass; the best is or perhaps was a steakhouse called Taras Bulba in a town I used to live in. Either way, it's avoidable.

That steakhouse was named after the fictional character Taras Bulba. There was an Oscar-nominated 1960s movie "Taras Bulba" starring Tony Curtis. That's my only association with the name Taras.

Hi !!!I've never seen Taras (Тараc) before. Its meaning is quite strange to me as Taranto is still an important town but not a pleasant place, despite its history (in my opinion). There is a very huge steelworks company so Taranto is very (very!) polluted. But as a Russian name is interesting because it reminds us the Classic history.

Beautiful. Never heard of it 'till now. It would fit a strong character.

Beautiful! One of my favorites. Mystical and wise.
