I'm mostly interested in the pronunciation. I've heard Karen with the a as in apple and as in day, but here in South Africa we say KAHren, which I like a lot. Karin has the German pronunciation or close to it: kaRIN, and Kara sounds like KAHruh. So, I like KAHren when I'm speaking English! And I like Karin when I'm speaking Afrikaans or German, but not enough to use. Kara has never appealed to me at all.

Both Karen and Karin I would not advise because of the misogynistic Karen meme that is popular on the Internet these days. This leaves Kara, which is all right, but seems a bit insubstantial.EDIT: fixed typo.

I agree. I kinda like Kara, it sounds cute, but perhaps as a nickname? If you can find something longer which is suitable for Kara to be a short form of, that would be ideal

I hate that meme so much. It's even been used on our local neighborhood list serv.I've got a friend who wants to name her daughter after her mom, Karen.

Kara- prn Care-uh, adorable, sweet and cute. Love it.Karen- prn Care-in, ugly ugly ugly. Blech. Mom name. Not cute vintage name at all.Karin- prn Carr-in, meh. It’s passable, better by miles than Karen, not half as cute as Kara.
