I love this name. I find most Scottish boys names really appealing. However, I wouldn't use it on a boy in the US, not even if you have Scottish roots. There would be no end to the teasing. I've never heard of anyone with that name, personally.

It's an ok name, bit weird if you don't have Scottish roots though. I have a cousin called Hamish, his elder brother is called Samuel and his younger one AngusS xx--
The truth is, I have met the right person, only he's not in love with me, and until I stop loving him no-one else stands a chance

I've surprised I don't like it more, given my love for the name Tavish. I guess that syllable of "ham" really doesn't appeal to me much. Tav is a MUCH nicer sound to me.

It's pronounced HAYM-ish though, not HAM-ish. I'm not sure if you're turned off by the spelling or the sound though.

I don't really care for either the look or the sound actually.

Yah, I used to like it because I had a friend by that name long ago, but now that the association has kinda faded i don't really think its that acttractive. I think I'd rather see Seamus than Hamish if a " James" idea was the point.

I like it, actually, but I'm afraid it would get butchered and teased about in the U.S. :( The "ham" part would stick out, esp. on a chubby boy, unfortunately. Not sure about mn's, but sibling names to go with Hamish could be:Duncan
Ewan / Euan
Innes
Alistair
Angus
Niall
Finlay
Baird
Gregor
MungoIona
Greer
Moira
Rowena
Ailsa
Lilias
Amabel
Flora
Mhairi
Muriel
Mairead / Maisie
Isla :)
