Kaspar is a lifelong citizen of Vienna currently working part-time as a waiter while he finishes his degree in nursing - he met Žofia, a coach at a semi-professional women's football team who's originally from Slovakia but moved to Vienna when she was 14, at a bar 5 years ago. They fell for each other pretty much instantly, and recently got married.
Year 1 - Vienna, Austria
Žofia has decided to quit her job at the football team and has chosen to put her physiotherapy degree to better and more direct use.
Year 2 - Vienna, Austria
Kaspar has finished his nursing degree and started work in that field, quitting his job as a waiter.
Year 3 - Vienna, Austria
A terrorist attack in Vienna leaves 19 dead, including one of Žofia's former players. She, like the whole nation, is shocked and upset, but Kaspar helps her to move on.

In a big change not only for the children but also for Kaspar, who's never lived outside Vienna, the family move to Norway. They move to be closer to Kaspar's brother, Markus, who moved there years ago and whose wife recently passed away, leaving him with three small children. The greatest challenge for all of them is their lack of Norwegian language skills, but this is pretty easily overcome by the children, who get on brilliantly with their Norwegian-speaking cousins Ingrid, Jonas, and Ida.

The family take a holiday back home to Austria, while Daniela also starts school in Norway.

Daniela achieves her goal of beating Ingrid, who is in the same year as her at school, on their spelling tests all year.

Daniela gets a warning from the police for vandalism after she's caught hanging around some older teens doing graffiti, but her parents aren't too concerned about her behaviour. Valentina has started competing in swimming competitions locally.

Moving away from nursing, Kaspar has found a new job as a social worker.
Year 20 - Zürich, Switzerland

Kaspar's brother remarried last year, and now that they know he and his children will be okay, the family decide to move back to a German speaking country after 11 years in Norway. However, Daniela, now 16, has decided to stay in Oslo with Markus and his family to finish her high school studies.
