I think they’re both lovely.

Both are respectable, solid names. Nothing problematic. I do prefer the sound of Julian more though. I'd probably pick that over Julianne for a girl, if I had to pick.

I have never liked Julian. It sounds so wimpy and prissy. You just know Julian won't play with the other kids because he's afraid of getting his pants dirty or messing up his hair.
Julianne is okay but kind of blah.

I hate Julian for a boy because I think it's too soft, and I don't mind Julianne for a girl, but far prefer just Julia.

The only Julian I've met used to wander around our college campus playing accordion, so I'm somewhat fond of it for that reason. If I forget about him, it sounds stylish to me but in a way that's maybe overly self-conscious or even foppish...more so than Damian, less than Florian, about the same as Fabian (and I like Fabian, so eh, Julian's okay).

Julianne sounds dated to me, similar to Marianne or Jeannine, but I think most Juli* names are pretty, and it's not an exception.

I like Julian. Has a heroic vibe sorta. I'd use it.
Julianne seems dated to me, along the lines of Carolyn and Marianne. I'd expect Juliana, among youth. I prefer Julia to either (and would use it).
Also I like Gillian more than Julianne.

I prefer Julian. It's lean and mean and authentic! Much better than hissy Julius.

Julianne doesn't appeal to me at all. The only female Juli- name I like at all is Juliet, and then I'd only use it as a mn, to avoid Julie, Jules etc nns. Julia has strength and dignity, but Julianne is like a preschooler dressed up in her frilliest dress, wearing three of her mother's necklaces.

It’s a little flimsy, without much substance. It also feels dated to me, but dated to what period I’m not sure. Both remind me of Julian of Norwich.

I like Julian well enough, and it's also the name of one of Hugo's half brothers. I like Julius, too.
