Extremely bland, in my opinion. I much prefer Jessamine.

As for names that were SUPER trendy at a certain point, Jessica isn't bad at all. I like it better than a lot of the other trendy names of my generation. The full name is elegant without being too soft, and the nickname Jess (or Jessie) is cool. The only annoying thing, I'd assume, about being a Jessica is having to share the name with so many other women.

I went through the phase of disliking and it could be because I was one of many Jessica's in school (shoutout 90s babies) and wanted a name that was less common or wanted a more 'unique' name. Fast forward, 10+ years later, I like it now but go 90% of the time by Jess and never Jessie (I'm not a Jessie.)

Don't like it. I met so many of them growing up, it doesn't do a thing for me. Also, I don't like the ICK sound, in the middle.

I’ve never had strong feelings one way or the other for Jessica. It’s very common where I am at the moment. I have two Jessica’s in my brownies (girls 7-10 years old) and one in my rainbows (girls 5-7 years old).

I like it, but it was too popular, is now too common, and I'm very glad I rejected the idea of ever using it because I knew it was popular.

Of the 80s names, it's far from the worst. It doesn't scream neon and hair spray like Tiffany does, for example.
I think it's ok. I've known so many that it's become almost a familiar sound instead of a name. Nothing about it excites me or disgusts me. Jessie is an adorable nickname, much better than Jess.

It's my name so I have to comment. I do like it but I was born in 1990 when it was number 1 so I did have a lot of other Jessicas in my school. Maybe because of the popularity reason as well as the sound, I actually prefer Jessie as a full name. That said, when I introduce myself as "Jess", everyone assumes it's short for Jessica so a Jess / Jessie / Jessa / Jessamine etc would constantly be explaining what their full name really was to people.
Anyway, it does have a nice look and sound to it and is much less popular than it was 30 years ago (yuck, I'm 30 this year!) and so is more on the "fresh" than "stale" end of the scale these days.

I agree with the "freshness" our name has now vs in the 90s. I think it'd be quite nice to meet a baby Jessica in 2020.

Ehhhh, I disagree and I just have to say so. I don't see how a name can sound fresh on a baby or small child when there are still a great many women in the prime of life walking around bearing the name. Even when the women are no longer in the prime of life. Freshness doesn't happen until all of those women have gone to The Great Beyond, IMO.

I love the name Jessica too. It's just a shame that I have so many bad associations with it. Otherwise, it's very pretty, and I like the Shakespeare connection too.
