[Opinions] Alison
Some time ago I was in Savannah, GA. A toddler was called Alison (or Allison?) and I said that I love the name since now a lot of people give their kids stupid names. So we chatted about different stupid names that people give their kids. I loved the whole conversation! I love the name Alison. What about you?

I like Alison. It’s not a favorite, and I probably wouldn’t use it, but I like it. I don’t like Allison, though, which I think looks too crowded.

Yeah, it's a good one.
There was a little girl Alison in my kids' preschool (she'd be about twelve now). Her brother was George.
Slightly older than average parents who were not American-born.
I don't like Alice or Allison. But Alison, which was still pretty "new" in the US when I was a kid, like Jennifer and Jessica and Michelle and Nicole and Renee, has become a solid and fairly timeless seeming name. Even more so than those others.Which names did you agree were stupid? I'm curious if you want to tell.

I like it a lot too, with this spelling. Allison looks unnatural to me.

Yes, I do love it. I suggested it when I was pregnant for the first time, in case we had a girl, but DH had an unfortunate family member named Alison who was mentally unstable and very difficult to cope with, so it couldn't have happened. If I'd been married to someone else, who knows? I like Alice very much as well, though they feel so very different to me that I don't think of them in the same breath.

I really, really like Alison. It's such a neat, pretty little name. Funny, I don't like Alice at all. Too hissy and slithery. I love the nickname Allie also, but Alison in full is great.

Yes it's lovely

I would probably like it better if I had a better name association. I literally have only ever known one Allison in my life, and she was annoying, lied, tattled consistently, and was just a weird, weird person. I like Allie, and don’t mind the sound of Allison, but just can’t get past my intense dislike of the name to try and like it.

No I just don't like it at all. It was the name of my best friend in high school. I didn't like it then and don't like it now. I just don't like how it sounds. I have no better reason than that, and don't think I need one.My mother wasn't what you'd call a name-nerd and didn't talk about names much, but there are three girls' names I recall her saying she hated. One was Jessica. I don't recall how that one came up. The other two were Alison and Erica, and I know that those came up because they were the names of two of my teenage friends. She said she hated them, so guess I was never in danger of being an Alison. Which is fine by me.

Sounds like a fuddy-duddy to me. Aly is cute, though.
