[Opinions] Lydia

I absolutely ADORE it! So classic and sophisticated along with many other positive adjectives. It would be my go-to name for a daughter if it wasn't for my middle niece. I feel their names would be too similar. );
However I do plan on adopting a pair of cats in the hopefully nearby distance and plan on using this name on one of them. :) The name is just simply too gorgeous not to use.

No, but I do now! I never really liked Lydia anyway. The “lid” sound is too prominent to me, it’s just not attractive. I always think of the silly Bennet sister from Pride and Prejudice.
I love Lydia (which I prefer to Lidia - I think the "lid" in the name throws me). I've become resigned to the fact that I'll probably never be able to use it, though, because it's very similar in sound to my SO's surname (which starts with Li- and has a D in it as well). Ah well.
I would never have thought of labia in connection with it at all, lol.

Lydia does not have enough in common with Labia to make me think of it. Maybe like... Labella...
I love Lydia! I don't care about Lidia. It's beautiful, simple, distinct yet recognizable, and combines really well. I'm blue that it only has a geographical meaning rather than a clear etymological one, but I like that it's ancient and I like that it can be associated with the Lydian scale.

As somebody whose mind often “goes there” and who tries to consider all the possible negatives (and positives) before making decisions, I can tell you I’be never thought “labia” when considering Lydia. I think it’s a lovely name.
LOL, thanks mom.
It doesn't make me (or didn't make me, ha) think of labia, but it did make me think of litter and liver, neither of which are good associations.
Lydia, for me, is like Alice. It's a name I would like -- it's the style of name I'm attracted to -- but there's something about the sound that grosses me out.

When I hear or see Lydia, I think of one of the best lecturers I ever had at uni - appropriately, in Classics. No doubt she was the proud possessor of the same number of labia as the rest of us, but I never gave them a thought.
Snort. Hilarious way of putting that last bit.
I had a science professor at my university whose name was Lydia. She was very short and seemed like someone who may have been so serious all the time partially so she would be taken seriously. I know I find it hard to be taken seriously sometimes because of my height but I just am too happy go-lucky to ever become so severe and serious.

I love it and dont think of that. Lydia is the most common spelling here
I hate Lydia. To me, it's the epitome of empty seeming (yet classic!) and moderate. It makes me think of beige.
No, I don't remember ever associating it with labia, and I don't even now that I've heard your mom does.

Never thought of that. I like Lydia. It’s cute, sweet, and simple. A little bit of elegance but not too much. Just the regular spelling.
No but it always makes me think of the word lid, as in a container with a lid. Lol.
I've always found Lydia to be a bit harsh. It is a mature seeming name but also feminine and a little old-fashioned. It reminds me of the names Evelyn and Agnes. They are names that I sort of like but they each have something about them that makes me not interested in them for my own children. I think they are nice for other people's children because there isn't anything wrong with them they just aren't quite my style.

I have never, in my entire life, made that connection. Why is your mom's mind in the gutter, lol!!!
Lydia is a lovely classic name.

Hahaha, exactly! I had never before made that connection either!
