Somehow, I've only met two, and they were both pretty memorable. The first guy was blind, gay, and Hispanic, born around 1980, and the other was a guy from Montreal born around 1995 who was bicycling across North America.

I suppose I feel somewhat neutral to it. Admittingly, it's a fairly decent name, very practical and no nonsense but I would probably enjoy it more if it wasn't for a personal association of mine. Back in high school I knew a guy named this who was completely arrogant (pfft yeah, what teenage boy isn't?) but he like took it a step further and was SO full of himself it was almost downright laughable. Completely gag worthy.
As I mentioned, Joel's a decent name, but I'd feel rather cautious to come across another one.

The first thing that comes to mind for me is the show Northern Exposure so I always think fondly of this name.

I love Joe as a nn for its friendly sound and because I associate it with a dear uncle who died too young. He was Joseph, but if I wanted a Joe son, I think I probably wouldn't be able to resist Joel.

I like it, others may not, but it's a nice name and it isn't a overly common name.

There's no real reason why I shouldn't like Joel- it's a short, underused Biblical name and I've known some good kids named Joel. Yet, I just don't like it; I don't like the way it looks, I don't like the way it sounds. But I do get why others would like it.

Joel is the sum total of obnoxiousness to me. All I can think of when I hear it is the most obnoxious man living. This is not due to any personal association, as the only Joel I've known, a friend's brother, I knew only slightly and had no reason to think he was obnoxious. I don't know why it is, but it is.
