I'm sorry, it's always felt really unsubstantial for me, like someone just combined three pleasing syllables. It doesn't seem have a strong meaning or history. I even met an Alina and I didn't care much for it. It's not terrible, just not my taste.
I much prefer Lina. I've met a Lina with Persian heritage and she wore her name proudly. Her sister was Aliza, which I love even more, and I would consider using myself.
I also have a soft spot for Halina, since I'm part Polish. I think it's sweet.
