It's a good name. I like the French pronounciation of Charles. If I were royalty, I would have given my child six names as well. Perhaps even seven.

I’m not sure what everyone’s hating on Charles for, I think it’s a very pleasant name. The names are nice, individually and together, though Marie seems slightly out of place.

Congratulations to the proud parents!

Back in April, I created a couple of polls for everyone to guess the name that Guillaume and Stéphanie would use for their royal baby. On the boy name poll, Charles got 6% of the votes. Sébastien got the most votes, even though it's the name of one of Guillaume's brothers. But I see Philippe in the name! Philippe was one of my guesses if they had a son (the other was Jean).

Hi, Felie. :)Is 6 the normal number of names for that family? It seems like overkill, even for a royal.Jean Philippe Joseph or Charles Marie Guillaume would seem more manageable. Or actually...
Jean Philippe Marie or Guillaume Philippe Joseph would be my favorite combination of those names.I like all of the names individually except for Charles.

All middle names seem to be honoring, so the only one they actually chose is Charles. The number of names seems to be up to the parents, here are the baby’s male ancestors:
father: Guillaume Jean Joseph Marie
grandfather: Henri Albert Gabriel Félix Marie Guillaume
great-grandfather: Jean Benoît Guillaume Robert Antoine Louis Marie Adolphe Marc d'AvianoSome other family members - cousins, aunts, uncles, great-aunts, great-grandmother, etc.
Marie Astrid Liliane Charlotte Léopoldine Wilhelmine Ingeborg Antoinette Élisabeth Anne Alberte
Imre Emanuel Simeon Jean Carl Marcus d'Aviano
Charlotte Adelgonde Elisabeth Marie Wilhelmine
Jean Félix Marie Guillaume
Alix Marie Anna Antoinette Charlotte Gabrielle

Marie Astrid Liliane Charlotte Léopoldine Wilhelmine Ingeborg Antoinette Élisabeth Anne AlberteWow, that is quite a name. I like it.
Ronny was interesting to see as a 3rd middle name, too.I didn't know there was that much variation in length within families.

The older generations seem to have more names and back then it was common to use names of godparents as middle names + honoring grandparents + the obligatory Marie and you get quite a long name.Ronny is honoring, his mom is Tessy and her twin brother is Ronny. Even in the same sibset number of names can be very different.
For example: Gabriel Michael Louis Ronny
Noah Etienne Guillaume Gabriel Matthias XavierGuillaume Jean Joseph Marie
Félix Léopold Marie Guillaume
Louis Xavier Marie Guillaume
Alexandra Joséphine Teresa Charlotte Marie Wilhelmine
Sébastien Henri Marie Guillaume With the new baby I’ve read that the parents had fertility issues and he might be their only child, so I assume they wanted to honour all their relatives with him. And they had two deaths in the family last year, so those names were also used.

Guillaume is my favorite of the lot. It is interesting to see Marie as one of his middle names.I am not a fan of Charles; it makes me think of a stodgy and wanna be playboy.

Darn, it's pretty boring. I like Guillaume.
