[Opinions] May, Mae, Mei and Mai
Replies
May is nice. It’s not my favorite, but it’s nice. Mae is mostly the same, though it’s a bit more cutesy.
Mei is probably my fave out of these. It seems much brighter and more youthful than the others.
Mai is my least favorite, though I don’t dislike it at all. It just seems... I dunno, slightly less appealing?

May is my middle name and I like it well enough (sort of cutesy but at least it's an actual word and has some nice spring imagery).
Mae seems too cutesy, it's either a hyperfeminine little girl or an old country grandma and nothing in between.
Mei is good, it sounds youthful to me but I don't know what it actually sounds like in Japan.
Mai is okay, but it makes me think of Maia and that looks more complete. Mai also doesn't seem as young as Mei to me.

Mae is, phonetically, nonsense. May is perfectly acceptable and does not need to be tweaked.
Don't know Japanese; no context. I am familiar with Mei as a Chinese name: the person I know, Chinese from Shanghai, married to a Scotsman, pronounces it like May: her full name which everyone uses is Mei-Lin. Which is pretty! She tries to persuade people to call her Apple, or even Plum, but nobody does.

May is okay. I like the y in the end.
Mae reminds me of Tina Turner and Mae West. And I kind of expect it to be part of a combo, like Ellie Mae og Anna Mae. I like Maeve better.
Mei is pretty. It’s probably the nicest version and the only option I actually like.
I wouldn’t know about the Japanese Mai but Mai is the standard Danish version. Pronounced like My but the sound is shorter. TBH, I’ve always thought the name was kinda dull. Especially in the combination, you often find it in, in Denmark: Mai-Britt.
Maiken (a related name) is also pretty dull.

May and Mae have very different vibes to me. May is a little sweeter and milder, Mae is a little adventurous and badass. I like both.
Mei is beautiful. Very light and flowery feeling, similar to May.
Mai sounds a little more like 'my' to me. It doesn't have the lightness of the others. Still nice though.

ditto, almost
I get the same kind of vibes from each, but I'm mostly indifferent to them all.
