[Opinions] Banjo
Saw a kid in the park this afternoon called Banjo.
WDYT?
Any combos that strike your fancy?
I like it as a nickname but find it far too insubstantial for a full name. If I were to guess I’d say it’s after the poet Banjo Paterson. A bit Australiana - similar vibes to Matilda, which is very popular here.

It’s terrible. It sounds like a celebrity baby name.
Dumb
I think Banjo's a silly name.

I don't love it but I'm not super against it. It sounds nice.
It reminds me of a dog that my late maternal grandparents used to have. I don't know what exact breed he was but he pretty much looked like a Border Terrier but smaller. He had a disgruntled temperament when it came to little kids. Oh boy, let me tell you. I kept away from him as much as I could, including, as a young child, either having to be carried past him by my adamant request or hurrying past him into the house.
I think it's a good name for a dog, despite the one I knew, but it's just too out there for a person.

Nah.
There are some names that shouldn't be one. This is one of them.

Ditto
I completely agree.
I like it.
Banjo sounds like a name for a dog, if anything. I can't see it as a nn other than a show-biz gimmick. Banjo Slim and His Western Wailers, something like that.
Too hokey.
It's a no for me. Cute for a pet, though.
It's nice but hard for me to imagine this name on a child.
Banjo does get used on occasion here in Australia and honestly, I really like it. I think it works as a full name, not just a nn, but that’s probably because I’m an Aussie and it doesn’t seem super unusual to me. Matilda is so popular here.
Yeah I think it must have different associations here because I’ve seen it a couple of times too and, although I don’t love it, don’t have as strong of a dislike as it seems to have received on this board. How interesting.
Great for a dog, terrible on a human.
Okay now, talk about a dog name....
I know one boy named Banjo. I've posted him and his siblings before but I'll post them here again (the older two are the only girls):
Blue
Allure
Duke
Banjo
Caledro "Cal"
Percy
In that set, he has one of the more "normal" names. Banjo is a bit nicknamey and maybe a little too connected with dogs but it still has a charm to it. I kinda like it.

We have a Banjo, he's our dog though, don't like it for a child
Oh, it’s such a dog name!
