First of all, I really like the Irish form of Alice which is Ailís, pronounced AY-lish. Do you like it? Is it usable (if you haven't replied to my previous thread).

Then the spellings of Ailish and Aylish have really grown on me, which do you prefer? Do they look stupid and misspelled or fine? (I worry a bit even though I like them). Would you choose Ailís, Ailish or Aylish?

And Alice :) I love the name. What do you think of it? Are you surprised it is not more popular?

I love Alice. It's a very beautiful, timeless name. I also really like the similar name, 'Alyse' (produced eh-LEES)

I don't care for Ailís in any of its forms but I do think it's very much useable.

I love Alice and would use it contentedly.

I have no connection with Ireland, and therefore no reason to consider Irish names which are not thoroughly Anglicised, like Bridget and Patrick.

I love the name Alice, have for years. It makes me think of Alice in Wonderland and the maid from The Brady Bunch, both fine imo! I am surprised it’s not more common, as it seems to fit that older, sweet style of names that has gained popularity. But here in Australia, it’s not as big of a trend as other places.

Ailis is alright, if you’re Irish, but would seem a little strange for others to use. I think I prefer Ailish and like that the most.

I prefer Alice. The other reminds me too much of the word eyelash.

I prefer Alice to Ailís, I don't really like the SH sound.

I think Ailís is usable, for an Irish spelling of a name it is actually pretty intuitive. I think Ailís is the best spelling, but if I had to choose one of the other spellings Ailish is better than Aylish which just looks made up. I don't think it would be that hard to get people to pronounce Ailís correctly.

Alice is my favourite spelling of the name. At the moment I have two brownies (girls 7-10) with this spelling of the name.

Alice is quite popular where I live at the moment.
