[Opinions] Eugene and Anselm
I've been really digging these two boys names lately, especially Eugene. What do you think of them? Middle name suggestions?I have another question: My top boy name of all time is Ezra. I've adored it for years now and it just feels like "mine." Normally I hate when siblings have the same initial, but is it as annoying if there are only two? WDYT of brothers named Ezra and Eugene "Gene"? Thank you for your input :)

I honestly think Eugene is more of a middle name than a first.

Anselm is a bit different and a name I haven't given much thought to before. It does sound handsome, but something about the pronunciation I'm not a huge fan of. It's a lot of sounds that kind of blur together? I can't explain it. I probably wouldn't use it personally.Eugene is old-fashioned, but I do think it's charming. I'd be more inclined to actually use Eugene than Anselm personally. I wouldn't think much about a sibset Ezra and Eugene. The initial sounds are different enough that it probably wouldn't strike me as too matchy.Eugene Dallas

I like Jean for a girl, but not Gene for a boy.I prefer Ewan to Eugene. When they have the same letter but a different sound, it is fine.

Eugene is a name with rich imagery. I imagine him as an incredibly posh Edwardian, probably also a brilliant scientist, quite stout, has a habit of trailing off in the middle of the sentence, the least organised human being on Earth. He has a beautiful and very competent wife who says YOOuh-jeeen in a sing-song voice to gently remind him that he poured tea on his cornflakes again.
Anselm is quiet, sophisticated, intelligent, cold. It feels like a very grey name, if that makes sense? Also, I feel an Anselm would be a navy admiral who collects butterflies and very rarely laughs.CombosEugene Aeneas

I adore Anselm! It’s one of my favorite names. I like Eugene, too.Anselm Vivian, Anselm Horatio, Anselm Cosimo, and Anselm Eustace are some of my favorite combinations.Ezra & Eugene is a cute sibset! It doesn’t bother me that the names begin with the same letter.

Love both Anselm and Eugene! I think I prefer Ansel a little more, especially as a brother to Eugene, but they both work. I get artsy but rugged mid century American vibes from Ansel and Eugene, whereas Anselm and Eugene leans a little more European serious & sophisticated.I don’t mind Ezra and Eugene together at all, especially because Eugene starts with Y consonant sound and not an open E vowel sound. Especially with nn Gene, it’s not a problem.

Eugene has been a bit of a gp of mine for years. I think you're safe with Eugene and Ezra. Sure they both start with "e", but they are entirely different sounds.
