I associate it with flora and fauna, and with the hilarious heroine of Cold Comfort Farm. All things considered, plus the fact that it's a family name on both sides, I much prefer Florence.

Also, one of my all-time favourite names is Laura: too close.

I think Flora is really pretty and fairly uncommon, but not super rare, which I like. It was at the top of my list for a while, but now it's been surpassed by Louisa and Greta. I also like how it is a subtle floral name, not super flowery, like Gardenia or Peony, or something. All in all, I think it is a nice name.

Makes me think of the fairy in "Sleeping Beauty", which is not exactly a negative connotation but not exactly a positive one, either. Also it's always sounded clunky to me. Also ironic, as I always picture a Flora being the last person in the world who would make you think of flowers.

I like it a lot. I don't know if I'd use it myself, but I think it's a nice, gentle name for someone else's child.

I think my favorite Flora combo is Flora Madeleine.

It's gonna be a rising lil star. Like Nora etc but more whimsical and fae.

It was my great grandmas name, we always called her Grandma Flo. I think it’s very old lady and blah. I don’t really remember her much, she died when I was 12 and had Alzheimer’s or something like that and she lived in a home. But anyways... I think the name is kinda boring and old lady-ish.

It's the most popular brand of margarine in the UK, so I can never use it.

Without that association, it's a pretty name.

It is sweet, earthy, and feminine. When I was younger, I thought it sounded too soft, but, as an adult, I've come to value its gentleness more.

I think it's a very pretty name. It seems to have a 50s retro style.

It’s pretty, if a little on the frilly side.

It's nice. I think it benefits from sounding like Laura. It might have an over-blown (as a flower gone a little past its full bloom) or garish aspect to it, like Ruby and Florence, but that doesn't make me dislike it the way I do those names. The sound of Flora just seems nicer. Since Pluma was mentioned in the other thread I'm getting a similar feeling between Flora and Pluma. They're a little bold, like Ava or Rosa, but also seem gentle/natural like Hazel or Willa.

Very charming, with wonderful associations and a pleasant sound.

I prefer Fauna.

I've never met a Flora, probably I'd like it more if I had.
I want to say it's dull because of the Flor sound (I pronounce it just like floor), but I don't think Florence or Florida are dull sounding.

It’s a new addition to my top 10. The margarine association in the U.K. used to bother me, but I don’t really think of that anymore when I hear it. I think it will increase in popularity as it’s similar in sound to other popular names here like Florence and Lara.

I do really like it, but I don't know if I'm biased because I love flowers and my name is Laura and (to me) they sound very similar haha. So I don't think I could use it, but I'd love to meet a little Flora.

I quite like it. I could see it becoming a bit more popular. Maybe not top 20 but maybe top 100?

I think it’s cute. Not really my taste, but it’s not bad.

I like this name a lot, it has grown on me so much recently. I do love floral and nature names, so it’s no surprise that I’d like this one I guess!
