[Opinions] Myra
Any thoughts on Myra?I can't decide whether or not I like it. It's that kind of name. **Starfish and coffee, maple syrup and jam/Butterscotch clouds, a tangerine, and a side order of ham**

Makes me think of the song "Myra Goldberg" by the Decemberists. I kinda like it.

I don't like it starting with MY, seems a tad self-centred. Like Ivan starting with I! I prefer Mary, or even Myrna.

Love it. Mysterious and sexy.

I went to school with a lot of girls named Mayra, pronounced the same way. I always thought it was a nice name, and didn't learn until college that the similar Myra is actually taboo in the U.K.! (This ties in with that post a few days ago about how to kill a name: Myra Hindley and Ian Brady killed a bunch of kids, horribly, but people already likely knew a bunch of dudes named Ian so that didn't kill the name - whereas the less common Myra was immediately associated with a child murderer.)I've ever actually seen Myra used in the U.S., but I would find the choice refreshing. (I think Mayra might become a "dated" name among Hispanics in America, looking at the popularity spike.)

Meh. I prefer Mira.

I like it. It's simple, cute and practical. Though I don't think it's as nice as 'Mira' I still think it's lovely.

It's sour and frumpy, like she'd have sisters named Edna and Doreen.

Woo boy, do I think it's ugly. Not just ugly, fugly. It's depressing 1930s drab.

I just think of Myra Hindley.

I don't like it. It makes me think of a brash, loud, annoying girl. I may have known a brash, loud, annoying girl named Myra during my childhood? I have a dim memory of that, but it's dim.I understand Myra is unusable in the UK due to Myra Hindley.

Possibly because I lived in the U.K. for a few years and there seemed to be some documentary or movie about her on TV every six months or so, but I mainly associate it with her too.
