I love Maia, probably because of the little German cartoon bee but also because the Mayan civilisation, though fascinating in its own way, isn't one I'd like to commemorate. And Maya looks as if people might pronounce it like May, the month, with an -a tacked on. Which is perilously close to 'mare' if, like me, you don't pronounce the -r!
