[Opinions] Michelle vs. Nicole
Which one would you choose, and why? What would you use as a middle name? What would you name a brother and a sister? **Starfish and coffee, maple syrup and jam/Butterscotch clouds, a tangerine, and a side order of ham**

Michelle. It sounds like 70s crushed velvet.Michelle. It sounds like 70s crushed velvet.Michelle RhiannonI'd choose something equally soft-sounding for a sibling (maybe repeating the hush-hush "sh" sound):Matthew
Joshua
Dashiell
Ryan (either gender)
Jesse (either gender)
Sean (either gender)
Sasha (either gender)
Shannon (either gender)

Nicole for sure. I think it's beautiful and soft, simple yet sophisticated. Nic/Nikki and Cole is spunky and Coley (my preferred nickname) is sweet.Michelle is really pretty and nice too, but feels less timeless.Nicole Antonia, I think.Brother: Thomas
Sister: Bernadette

I prefer Michelle, I think. It was a favorite when I was a kid. Nicole seems like a mean girl name. Michelle SylvieBrother: Andrew
Sister: Stephanie

I dislike both, but I'd opt for Nicole.Combo: Nicole Rosamund
Sister: Frances Leontine
Brother: Jerome Algernon

Is Nicola more your speed?

I prefer it to Nicole, sure, but I still don't particularly care for it. I find that class of names so overused.Nicoletta is probably my favorite because it's the freshest.

MichelleIt's soft, pretty and Michelle Obama is damn cool.I do know a toddler names Michelle who is really cute too. I don't know if she has a MN or what it is.Michelle Diana
Michelle Ruby
Michelle Julia
Michelle Winter
Michelle Rebecca

I heartily dislike Nicole. I don't like spondees, and the second syllable is so COLd, like a sigh. It is impossible to say 'Nicole' without your mouth turning down at the corners.Michelle is OK, still very Beatles but why not? I prefer the neater, tidier Michele, probably because I've got two Michele friends, one English and one French. Michele Elizabeth and Michele Madeleine, to be exact. So, Michele and her siblings. They'll be English.Michele Philippa Clare
Eloise Rosemary Jean, or Jennifer Alison Rose. Or both - let's have twins!

I've always liked Michelle, so I'd pick that; I never did like the sound of Nicole. Even for a middle name.Michelle Rebecca might be nice?

I would like Michelle better, but several Michelles I've interacted with have turned out to be untrustworthy, and Nicoles never have. So I feel a lot better about Nicole. I like it better as Nicola, but Nicole is nice enough.Nicole AlizeeIf I had to name a baby (or character) Nicole I might name her twin Janine (or Jeannine)
or Jacqueline or Renee
Brother - Raymond IRL, or Gilbert or Francis or Daniel for a character.

Oh, this is hard. In France they are both extremely dated to the 30s and 40s and in English speaking countries to the 70s and 80s. I think they are both tired and boring.I also dislike the English pronunciation of Nicole (in France the O doesn't get dragged out so much, it is short).I'd choose Michelle. I hate the nicknames for it (Shelly, Mitchie) so I'd use the full version always. It sounds softer and prettier than Nicole. As a middle name also Michelle.Siblings? Christopher and Stephanie? Something really 70s/80s.

To add:Sorry, I understood which one of the two I'd prefer as a middle name.If I had to choose one for Michelle:Michelle Rose
Michelle LeonorAnd actually, I think I would leave the choice to my partner. Nicole at least has a family significance for me. But it sounds so odd to me that I couldn't pick it now. But if my partner preferred it, I would go for it.By the way, I used to kind of like Nicole. No idea what happened but at the moment I can't stand the sound at all.

Michelle by a landslide, it's pretty and timeless. Nicole, on the other hand, is ugly to my ears.Michelle Silvia maybe.Michelle, Elizabeth and Jonathan.

Ugh. Really. Well, if I had to I'd go with Michelle, because most of the time it doesn't have a nickname, in my experience anyway, and I think that most Nicoles go by Nicky or Nikki or some form of that, and I don't like it. Michelle Vivien, why not? Her brother and sister would be Victoria and William, because I don't care about sibsets "going together".

When I ask about sibsets, I don't necessarily expect the names to go together. Go wild. ;P

Okay, fair enough. But since that's what I named my kids, that's what Michelle-Named-Under-Duress's siblings would be.

Named Under Duress is a lovely middle name! That's so going on my PNL.

Just to clarify...What I mean is, what middle name would you choose for Michelle, OR Nicole? Which ever one you like, best.Sorry if I didn't make that clear.

I find Nicole more insteresting as i think it's classy and delicate.
I think i'd go with Amber or Rachel for a middle name. I've once met a Michele Karla as well.
I'd name Michelle's siblings Miguel and Marcela or Estela
i'd name Nicole's siblings Nikola or Cole and Marceline or Leticia

Nicole. I may be biased because it’s my best friend’s name. Nicole Arabella Nicole and Matilda I don’t mind Michelle either, it’s just a bit overused even though I don’t think I’ve ever met one.
