I noticed the name Willena yesterday from someone born in the 1930s.

In my mind I'm pronouncing it with the most emphasis on the first syllable, as in rhyming with Helena or "Helen of" (Troy).
I see the appeal of a name that's uncommon but not exactly weird.
It would be interesting to know the history of it.

:) I know a wonderful lady named Wilnett. She's a lovely person. Maybe that influenced my perception of it.I wouldn't use it on my own child, but I'm not really name-shopping for a child's name anyway.

I’ve never heard of Wilnett. Do you know its origins?

I don't know what the origins would be. I see there are some Wilnettes and Wilnettas out there but both forms seem very rare.The lady I know I believe was born either in Virginia or Maryland in the early 1950s.
