[Opinions] Draco
Do you think this could become popular? Do you like Draco?I saw, when I looked beyond the top 1000, that it is rising kind of quickly. It could make the top 1000 in a few years. These names from the books are also rising kind of quickly. What do you think of them? Which ones do you see in the top 1000?Hermione
Lavender
Ginevra
Sirius

It just means "dragon", it's not inherently 'a Harry Potter name' just because it was used in Harry Potter. The worst association is probably the crazy ancient Greek dude.Draco - Like it but wouldn't use it. It's better than Drake, Drake sounds kind of obnoxious (and like a duck).
Hermione - Like it, might use it as a middle name, would like to see it on more people.
Lavender - Like it but both Lavender and Lilac can be a little awkward sounding for first names.
Ginevra - Like it, I wouldn't use it but I'd like to see it more.
Sirius - Like it on a dog or as a middle name for a human.

I dislike Draco strongly and I don't think it will become popular, but I do see potential in Hermione and Lavender (though I don't really like the latter).

If you want everyone to clock you as a die-hard Potterhead, sure. Go right ahead! Drake would make more sense, honestly.

I don't really like any of them

It sounds hyper masculine but not more so than a combo like Drake Marco would be...and not sillier than Phoenix, so I could see it rising some.I like most names from HP (one of my favs is Rosmerta). I heard Draco in the 90s before I read that, though.I think the only of those 4 I hadn't heard before I read HP was Sirius, and even that has the radio association + the star.
I like Hermione and Ginevra as IRL names, don't really care for the others although they're alright. I don't see any of them becoming popular soon where I live.

Not my cup of tea but not the worst I've heard either. It does indeed seem to be rising in popularity. While I know the Harry Potter character is super well known, it's not like Rowling invented the name. It has a whole history dating back way further than that. But I also admit that may be easy for me to say since I've never been heavily into HP. Ginevra is the one name I could see myself possibly using. Lavender is lovely, too, though. Not feeling Hermione or Sirius so much.

Draco's awful. I don't know why anyone would use it aside from being Harry Potter fans, and if they were HP fans they would (I hope) not think Draco was a good character to name after. Duh. It would be like naming a kid Dracula.

To be fair, Draco is entirely redeemable. He's like Dudley; raised in a family who imposed certain values onto their children, but when push came to shove, they rejected it. Dudley stuck up for Harry in the last book and Draco saved his life by pretending he didn't recognise him to his crazy aunt Bellatrix. Draco's mother, Narcissa too. She lied about Harry being dead to Voldemort's face. You know, the most powerful wizard who can easily read minds. Mighty bold of her.So Dracula is a bit of an unfair comparison lmao(also Draco and Harry are on good terms as stated in the epilogue)I wish he was completely redeemed in the last book, honestly. Perhaps jumping in front of Harry to deflect a curse and then having his back after that. It would have made a lot of sense character-development wise as he was very eager to make friends with Harry in the first year, but he went about it in the worst possible way (insulting one of Harry's only friends, even if they had just met). But this is what fanfiction is for-Personally I like the name Draco. I think its pretty cool. I don't think it works as well as a baby name, though. Not that it's a bad one to use, I'd prefer that over certain other types of names.I love also (with varying degrees of usability);Hermione
Ginerva "Ginny"
Minerva
Remus
Regulus
Orion
Sirius
Bellatrix (though like HELL would I ever use that lmao Bella is crazy af)
Luna
Lavender
Harry
William / Bill
Fred
Molly
ScorpiusA HP fanfic sold me on Aries too

I agree, he became a great character in the end and also in "The Cursed Child" (even though I didn't like the script at all).Do you have recommendations for good fan fictions? I normally don't read them (except for the crazy one featuring Ebony Dementia Dark'Ness Raven Way, that one was too funny to let go). I tried to read a few but never liked them. I'd love one that just focuses on Hogwarts and the new generation (e.g. Albus, Scorpius) or that focuses on another character's perspective during Hogwarts times (e.g. Oliver Wood, Cedric etc.).But they need to be well written and not creepy (I'm still disgusted by some I did try to read hahaha) and be faithful to the universe that was created. Then maybe I could get into it.

I have plenty of fanfiction suggestions and I will be very happy to share them! However they will be 90% Marauder era if not Marauder-related in some way (eg Bring-Black-Back / Raising Harry AU) and I've read none focusing on the next gen (I'm afraid I was so not into The Cursed Child and I simply wasn't inspired to go looking up any stories based around the characters)I do think I still have one focusing on Dudley and his parents as they are taken into hiding and basically it's about Dudley coming to understand the wizarding world and exactly who Harry is.I also have a fantastic! Non-Magic / Modern AU Remus x Sirius fic that I used to get my best friend into reading fanfiction. Normally I don't do Non-Magic AUs but this fic is just so insanely adorable it will surely win you over! (its fluff and nothing dark)There's an in-progress fic that I'm reading right now about Harry time-travelling back to the 70s and accidentally getting involved in the first war and trying not to reveal his identity. It's pretty dark though, and one of the main plotpoints is Voldemort (via polyjuice potion) becomes the Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher and blackmails Harry into entering a magical bond with him. Voldemort is extraordinarily manipulative and creepy in this fic and I find the author's interpretation interesting. There's two long fics about the Marauder's era, starting from year 1 and mostly focusing on Remus. One of them is Wolfstar (Remus x Sirius), the other is not. The one that is Wolfstar has a sequel fic (though can be read independently, the only difference is that Remus and Sirius are together in the sequel) which is actually a Drarry fic. I was NOT sold on the idea at all, especially since I've dabbled in the ship in the past (most fics did absolutely nothing for me) but this author is very talented and the fic is very funny. All these fics have dark elements but nothing that eclipses the original books at all I have many more. If you're interested, I will look up the titles / authors and provide links. In the case of a deleted fic, I can send you a PDF :)

Any time! I've been reading specifically Wolfstar for a decade now, there's just THAT much content on that couple alone. I love the fun pranking atmosphere of the Marauder's Era fics, the angst of Remus and Sirius' positions in life which gets angstier and angstier Post-Hogwarts through to Post-Azkaban. I favour comedy and fluff though, but I do appreciate heavy moments. Some have made me cry (not an easy thing). Here's a quick selection of fics separated by length and at the very bottom I have provided two Tumblr blogs that focuses on posting Wolfstar fanfiction and creating reclists. Of course I will be happy to rec more fics, I have enough xD If any of the links no longer work, please tell me so I can update my archive and search for a new one. If I cannot, I can just pop you a PDF link :)--0-0-0-0--
