As a person from England... YESSS there's tooo many Poppyyyyysss D: but it's not as common as Ellie, not nearly so
I've always found it silly also. Poppy sounds cute, cute in the same way I see Pumpkin, Pigeon and Sweetheart. Each work just as well on an adult as the other (so not at all).
