Help[Opinions] Nicknames that stuck
Anyone here have any interesting stories of nicknames that became so ingrained that they ended up taking over for the persons actual name? I think its funny how sometimes no matter how much thought goes into the name it just ends up completely different.
For example I knew someone who was originally Jarrah and literally everyone called her Spida. Or I also knew a kid named Mikah who is only known as Olive by everyone teachers to dentists.
(Also Note: I don't mean deadnames or intentional name changes more just somehow friend or family nicknames accidentally took over)

There's a boy in my sister's grade who is pretty much exclusively called 'Tater'. I don't actually know his real name, because that's all any of the kids refer to him as!

Two of my great-grandfathers went by their initials.
Duke was the nickname of John Wayne, whose real name was Marion Morrison.
Jack was the nickname that C.S. Lewis went by, but it may have been intentional.
A couple of people I know go by their middle names.

Podge
Yes, there was a boy called Podge at school. Don't ask me what his actual name is as I spent the whole of high school only ever hearing him be referred to as "Podge".

My brother is known as Boy by most people even though he’s almost 30 now.
We went on a family holiday to Turkey a little over 20 years ago. We had to get a taxi to our hotel and the taxi was a five seat car similar to a Volvo with the open boot. My dad tried saying to the driver but there are six of us including yourself so how will we all fit. The driver’s response was boy in boot. The nickname stuck.

This guy Roy at my old apartment just went by Butch to everyone except his wife, who called him by his real name. It was a home for the blind where everyone's names were posted next to their apartment doors, and even Butch's nametag said Butch! lol I never asked how he got the nickname, though.

My stepfather has a good friend named Robert, but he has been called Buckwheat by EVERYONE who knows him since he was little.
The story is that when he was little, and his cousins or friends would come to his house in the morning and ask if he could play with them, his grandmother would always say "Yes, as soon as he finishes his buckwheat." I don't know if it was pancakes or cereal she meant by buckwheat, but eventually he ended up being called Buckwheat and here he is now sixty-some years later and that's all anyone calls him.

My husband...
Hubby's given name is Aurelian. He was named for his maternal grandfather who was of Swiss German heritage. His mother called him Aurie as a nickname, spelled this way. But somehow that evolved into Orrie which is what literally everyone else calls him. He is rarely called Aurelian and his late mother is the only who called him Aurie and spelled it that way.
