I normally love Greek Mythology names, but I have to pass on
Parthenope (as well as
Parthenia), and it's entirely because of "parth."
Arthur is about the only name I can tolerate with the "arth" sound, and I can't say for certain why. But the "parth" names give me the same vibe as
Martha, which is a name I have never, ever warmed up to.
Obscure / semi-obscure Greek Mythology names I actually like:
ThaïsPersephoneHera (only heard of this occurring once in real life)
Olympia (does this count?)
PhoenixAntigoneElektraNephelePandoraGaiaEos (this was brought up on the board recently)
CirceEurydice (about the only name I like with the Eu- beginning)
IsmeneNausicaäXantheMedusa (yes, I said it)
&
Ares
