[Opinions] Olive
WDYT of Olive? It was my great grandmothers name (1907) and also the sister of one of my brownies names (2001). The brownie incidentally was called Rose.I quite like Olive but would use it as a middle name. WDYT?Mother to:

Maybe it's my pure hatred of the food, but I can't stand Olive, or maybe it's the fact that it is a food at all. I like Olivia and am fine with Oliver. My great-grandmother's name was just Ollie, and I think I would still prefer that, even though it seems incomplete and androgynous, to Olive.

I really love Olive. It's not as boring and overused as Olivia, less frilly and sounds more quirky.

I didn’t like it for years, but then it started growing on me and now I really, really like it. So much so, I would even consider using it. Olive and Rose are so cute for sisters.

Olive, the other reindeer...
Reminds me of that kids book. I sorta like it. I would use it as a first name, and it's much better than Olivia, which is overdone imo

Well, I'm one of those Olive lovers, lol. I know people hate this name, but I adore it. I think it's cute, clunky, studious, and even a bit rebellious. Olive don't need to be lyrical and pretty. That is the way I always describe it.

I’ve ever cared for it. It’s just the name of a vegetable and nothing more - like naming a kid Tomato or Asparagus.

I love Tomato--Tommy for short! :)

We had a thread on this name recently.I like it a bit more since then. It's calm and quiet. But I wouldn't use it and I wouldn't want to be named Olive. I love olives and olive trees but I still find it old-fashioned and at the same time kind of 2000s dated which is a weird combo. It's nice on someone else.

I'm at a loss with the recentish (2019/2020) fuss about Olive! Was there a celeb baby named this? Olivia and Oliver are so popular and Olive is the ugly cousin in my opinion. I don't get it. I like the fruit but not the name.

I feel like the recent fuss is just happening on this board. Apart from still feeling a bit old fashioned I also find it weirdly 2000s dated at the same time. To me it feels like in the 2000s every celebrity named their kid Olive. There was an Olive in "Easy A" and Olive in "Little Miss Sunshine", Isla Fisher had an Olive with Sasha Baron Cohen. Drew Barrymore had an Olive. It already feels like a thing of the past.
