[Opinions] Ireland (Female)
I really bren thinking about the name Ireland a lot lately. I remember somebody I know named their child Ireland a while back because of connections to Ireland. They have their honeymoon there, the first place they went to as a couple for a vacation, they met in Ireland, and pretty much fell in love there. I thought it was sweet, and really cute. They pretty much mostly pronounce it as EYE-er-lan without the harsh ‘d’ sound in it. They also have Irish ancestry, so that’s cool.
Anyways, what’s your opinion on the name Ireland? Do you think it’s too strange? Should they just have gaven their daughter an Irish name? I’d love to hear your thoughts."People say nothing is impossible, but I do nothing all day." Rate my personal name list please :) https://www.behindthename.com/pnl/217493

I met an American baby named Ireland once. It's a little weird.. I think -land is a pretty masculine ending. Ryland, Roland, etc. I think they should have named her Eireann (it's still "Ireland" but not so obvious)

As silly as naming a child Portugal or Greece.

Very, very stupid, to be honest. Are her sisters named Scotland, England, Greenland and Iceland?Eireann and Ériu are leagues better.

I much prefer it on a male. It has a sort of nickname vibe to it like Tex. You know, when people name people after a place because they forget their name? Its like an old WWII film.

YikesGenerally, naming people after countries is a bad idea. It'd be better if they just gave her an Irish name.

I actually love it! Yeah, a bit strange, but I’m still a fan.

Awful. Cheap and nasty. Why bother, when there's Erin waiting in the queue?

But... it’s a country...? Sorry, I think it’s weird. Simply choosing an Irish name is much better.

AwfulI immediately think of "ire."

It doesn’t really work for me. I think the place is too well known to see it as a name.

I dont really like it as a name, I think giving their daughter an Irish name would have been better

Alec Baldwin and Kim Basinger have a daughter named Ireland. So to me it is the ultimate celeb baby name and as they are the only ones who chose it it feels like it belongs to them in a strange way. It's almost like using another well known celeb name such as Blue Ivy together. It just seems unimaginative.I also guess that people from Ireland would find this name rather ridiculous. If someone wanted to honor Ireland I feel like the last name they should use is Ireland. Erin is already much better. Or any other nice Irish name an anglicization of it.I don't hate Ireland, don't get me wrong, but I wouldn't recommend it. It comes across as celeb-baby-crazy and a bit silly as it doesn't reflect Irish culture.

I honestly agree. I don’t hate Ireland, but I don’t love it either. I don’t really care about how they pronounce it. Some people even pronounce it AR-land or something.

Agreed it seems too oddAlso I'm finding their pronunciation a bit odd like why pronounce it incorrectly if they liked Ireland so much?
