[Opinions] Re: Jonty
in reply to a message by NobodyOfConsequence
I had a colleague once who celebrated his 30th birthday while we worked together. He was a Jonathan, and when he started working he asked us all to call him Jonty, but nobody could bring themselves to do it. He was tall and well built, and Jonty seemed totally unsuitable for any adult and especially one who looked like him. His behaviour could be immature - he had a psychiatric condition that we only became aware of later - but if anything that made the nn worse. I would rate Jonty 1/10; but I'd only rate Jonathan about 3/10.
Thinking, now: Jonty would have been a much more suitable name for an eternal child than Peter, but Peter Pan works so well that Jonty - if it even existed in JM Barrie's day - wouldn't have stood a chance.
