Roman is abrasive enough, but...Romane just seems trashy to me. Remy also withers buds on the vine for me, and I hate few names more than Ruby.

I like it, I have a French friend named this. I like the French pronunciation only. Romy is also cute as a nickname.

dittoLettuce was my first thought too.

In a French-speaking community, it's fine, but it doesn't travel well.

I love both Romane and Romy. They are both super popular amongst French speakers. Romaine is used in France, but it is not used where I live. I mostly like Romane for the nn Romy, not gonna lie. Also, as someone who loves to read, I like that "roman" is the word for novel in French.

Dont like it

Well, I liked it more before I read all the other responses where people intuitively pronounce it to rhyme main! I would not.
The French speakers I've heard would emphasize the N in such a way that it *almost* sounds like Romana in English.
I prefer Romana just because it's more natural in English, and I don't speak French. But Romane is nice.

Hi !!!I rate Romaine 4/10.I simply dislike this name even if I love French names and I have no issues with pronouncing it in the correct way. That's funny: I've never heard of a 'Romaine lettuce'. Never. We just call it 'lattuga' (lettuce).

My first thought is “Romaine lettuce” so I don’t think it’d work for me

Same as some of the other replies, this also reminds me of the lettuce. Maybe try Roman?

It's OK, I'd give it 6.5/10. I prefer Romaine, the lettuce isn't that bad to me.

At first sight I thought it was pronounced ro-MANE, like the lettuce. I also thought it’d be a masculine name.I don’t find it pretty at all. RAW-MAN sounds very unappealing to me. There’s a lot prettier French names out there.

I pronounce it as RO-MAIN. It’s prettier that way imo. Doesn’t sound in the slightest way masculine to me. But yeah there’s are definitely prettier French names out there. And I didn’t even notice the lettuce thing until you told me, lmao.
