Cannon is a family surname and incidentally so is Ball. I guess I could see Cannon as a child’s name though I would do a double take if I heard it and wouldn’t use it myself.Travis is a bit 90s but meeting a kid called Travis I wouldn’t find odd. My DH has a similarly dated name but for a different decade.

I think I wouldn't have an issue with Cannon as the middle name, honoring family surname.

Cannon isn't bad although I wouldn't use it. I like it better than Travis, which sounds like an overly confident millenial in blue jeans trying to schmaltz a younger woman. Canon is a fun guilty pleasure with the tie in to the accepted lore in fictional universes.

Just a surname. And not that bad. Better than Conan or Coman.

Hijack: is Conan usable?(Let me know if it's annoying to hijack posts like this, I just didn't think this was worth its own thread) Conan does make me think of Conan the Barbarian but it sounds pretty usable to me otherwise, and I think I'd rather use Conan than Cannon.

Totally usable; the history of Saint Conan is super funny:
https://www.stconanskirk.org.uk/saint-conan/I'd rather have a Conan too.

I wouldn’t, but ultimately I’d say yes. I don’t hate it. I prefer Cannon.

I would also use Conan over Cannon.

I like it as a GPI'd never use Cannon / Canon but I get the appeal; I like it more than Travis.

I think I'd prefer Canon.

Cannon reminds me of the literal Cannon, and Nick Cannon. Travis is an annoyingly trendy 90s name. And what does BA mean?

BA means birth announcement. It's an abbreviation used with some frequency on this board:

A family surname perhaps?I went to school with a girl whose surname was Cannon, spelled this way. That's where my mind went first.

Possible :)

Travis would have been better. Cannon is ugly

Eh, doesn't sound bad to me, kinda reminds me of Gannon which I like. It's a lot better than Hunter anyway.

Odd. For some reason it makes me think more of the camera (spelled Canon, but still) than the actual word. It's actually quite name-y. I hate violence but for some reason I don't think of cannons when I hear Cannon. Maybe because of the brand and because of people saying something is "canon". Odd, I know. I don't hate it as much as I should but I strongly dislike it.

Cannon is terrible.

Cannon would be okay if it wasn't, you know, something you shoot missiles out of. Travis is very dated. Also reminds me that I was watching true crime videos the other day and one of the murder victims they talked about was named Gannon.

I know a family with the last name of Gannon. Hopefully, they aren't closely related. I don't think of cannons as the same as a rocket launcher or a bazooka, so I don't connect them with missiles in the way that you seem to. A howitzer is sort of a cross between a cannon and a mortar, and they are still in use, so I guess cannons aren't totally obsolete. A couple of months ago a 155 mm howitzer artillery made history by successfully shooting down an incoming cruise missile. Go cannon!

I just mean missile like any projectile, not necessarily one that explodes :PAlthough I also think of Pachelbel's Canon

Was that the boy probably killed by his stepmother? I think I watched one of those videos too, I thought it was an odd name.
vote up1
Yeah, that's the one. It made me think of Zelda but I guess that's Ganon
vote up1
What's wrong with that? I like it. Travis especially. Cannon not so much, but it's a perfectly acceptable boy's name.
vote up1
Yeah, not a fan xDWhy Cannon? Have they said?It is Cannon as in... a cannon (the weapon) or Cannon (the camera company)?Travis is ugly, but at least it's a name...
vote up1
The camera company is actually Canon, with one n.Not so much a friend as an acquaintance, just seemed easier to write 'friend' in the subject line.
