Despite being a Slavic name with a long history, and the fact that I live near a community with a super-high Eastern European population (mostly Polish)... I have never met an Olga of Eastern European descent. Ever.

That's not to say I've never met an Olga - I've met quite a few! But they were all Hispanic. It's actually somewhat popular among Boomer / Gen-X Latinas (most of the youngest Hispanic Olgas are around 40, I think); I'm not sure how it caught on, but it did.

I have met Eastern European women named Ola - though in each case, it was a nickname for Oleksandra / Aleksandra.

That said, I can't say I'm really a big fan of either one. The nickname Ola feels just like that: a nickname. And Olga is very heavy to me - I perceive it as being heavier than Helga, which has something of a quirky charm (good choice for the Hey Arnold! character).
