I mentioned this name to a friend, who is not a name nerd. She said. "Oh, maybe they'll just call her Powie."

Atrocious. What if she turns out to have a really wimpy personality?

SO her name is actually Powerful Cannon? Ka-BOOOOOm!They sound like they have exactly three brain cells combined. And the kid's name sounds like she's going to grow up pushing other kids off the seesaw and throwing rocks at the teacher's car.

DreadfulI was hoping I had misread that. Apparently not.

Is 2020 the year of the worst baby names ever?Raddex, Rumble, Powerful Queen. Goodness, how embarrassing. Powerful Queen Cannon? Good god.

It almost seems like they were trying to one up Sovereign Bo and failed spectacularly.I feel like FN Powerful voids MN Queen of meaning. Something like Powerful Dove or Temperance Queen would make more sense.
...though I don't like Powerful as a name either way.

Well, I have some problems with the idea of "power" used generically (power to do what?) and I think "powerful" is kind of an ugly word.
And I have some problems with the whole idea of royalty and rule implied by "queen".
It's not my style, and if it were, I'd have used something more like, I dunno, Radiant Promise. But I interpret this kind of name as a sort of folk-magic practice, where you name a kid after how you want them to *feel* about themselves, with the intention that they'll tend to unconsciously believe in themselves and their possession of the qualities the name suggests (in this case, effectiveness and dignity). And also the effect it has on others who refer to her. Words do influence, and it really could make people feel subtly different about themselves and others, if someone's named Queen, or Victoria or Faith or Patience or Paige or Scout or Gray or Hunter. Although, other things modify that, the more you get to know someone. I'd be very surprised if they don't call her something else to her face, and keep the name she goes by private. It'd be pretty droll for a parent to address their child everyday as Powerful Queen, anyway - if not actually bad for the child.

I think you're onto something with the folk-magic bit; I see this name as something like a Millennial virtue name. The idea of all women being "queens" is a very popular sentiment these days so someone actually naming a girl "Powerful Queen" is, in a way, not entirely surprising. The world is shifting into this overwhelming demand for unwavering clarity, authenticity, honesty, and straightforwardness in ALL aspects of one's life, so I can totally see why it wasn't enough to name the child something like Victoria or Regina or even Queenie. It's not clear enough that way.

I find that sentiment so annoying. What's so great about queens anyway? It annoys me so much when people post a picture and then a thousand women go "yessss queeeeeen". Goodness. I find that so ridiculous.

I am not African American...so I can't say for sure...but, I think it has to do with history, and overcoming adversity. If you're a "king" or a "queen", no one can own you, or tell you what to do. So, I see the appeal of names like these for certain populations/cultures/whatever you want to call it.

At least they didn't name her "Yaass Queen"!

Hahaha yes, that's something.

I think Radiant Promise would be cool.

As usual, with celeb names of that type, I think they put their own egos ahead of their child's interests.

Um....I don't want to be mean or anything, but honestly, I feel for that poor child. There are plenty of names that mean "power" and "queen". They would've been better off picking from names with those meanings. It would serve the kid better, imo.Tl;dr: No. Just no. Nein. Nyet. Non. Nie.

*puke*And I thought celebrity baby names couldn’t get any more ridiculous! Hahaha! The epitome of out of control ego.
I don’t hold much respect for people using a child’s name to make political-like statements or like a brand. You’re naming a human being. Seriously get over yourselves.

I'm sorry...what??That's so dumb, what were they even thinking?Powerful Queen sounds like an online username, and it sounds like part of a sentence. "That was a very powerful Queen.

Powerful Queen sounds like a comic book character reject.

This is... one of the worse ones. In a sea of crazy.

Hm...I was kind of nervous about someone posting this, TBH.Anyway, I hope the family is happy and healthy and enjoying their new baby girl. Queen is kind of cool.

This. It's a cultural thing. And considering the current political climate it's understandable.

wt actual f...Lol! Guess she can be called Queenie, which is decent.

Yikes. It’s probably a nickname for something, but I honestly can’t say I’m surprised. Nick Cannon and Mariah Carey have twins named Moroccan “Rock” and Munroe, and he also has another kid named Golden. But Powerful Queen? Oh lord. It’s probably not gonna age very well, even worse than Posie. It’d be pretty interesting if she became anything but a “Powerful Queen”. I mean, you couldn’t just use the name name of a queen? Elizabeth, Victoria, Cleopatra, Nefertari, Nefertiti, hell, even Isis if you’re willing, lmao. The list can go on. But hey, you can name your baby whatever you want.

...Seriously?Are her parents hardcore feminists or something? That is the most ridiculously stupid name I’ve ever heard in my life. It might even top Shooter. Maybe even Beautiful Existence.
vote up1
Naming their kid Powerful Queen doesn't mean they're feminist. It shows they're stupid.

Hence why I said "hardcore feminist" and not just "feminist" - it brings to mind a feminist who goes to the extreme.
