It's fine I guess. I used to like it more than I do now, probably because it sounded like astroid, but now it's just too European for me.

I like it; where I live, one sits on one's arse, not one's ass, so that isn't a problem.I rank it second out of the three -rid names. Favourite is Sigrid, then Astrid and then Ingrid.

That's a kind of name you find ok, just ok, not bad, fine and fresh even, but there are always better variants, always. It's a second-place-not-good-enough curse. Moreover, I have a very stupid, really unpleasant association with this name.

It is my absolute faves of Nordic names, where I live, so I LOVE it of course.

I’ve always loved it. Unfortunately, I don’t think I get get away with it in the southern US.

A very long time ago, I would swear I read that famous pop artist Peter Max had a daughter named Astrid. He was extremely popular in the sixties and seventies, hobnobbing with the Beatles and whatnot. So I've always associated the name with him, which gives it a hippy like vibe. However, I read an article a couple of years ago that said his daughter's name is Libra Astro. I don't know if my original source had it wrong, or if I got it wrong at the time. At any rate, that association was so strong, I now feel like I need to re-think everything I've ever felt about the name. I honestly don't know how I feel about it now.

It's been rising in popularity in the US. I did several polls on it as a FN in 2019, and the response was consistently lukewarm ("it's usable" or "like it").I've been liking all the *rid names lately. I started liking Astrid a few years ago; now I like Ingrid and Sigrid.
...they just seem so sturdy and tidy or something - succinct, with character. Like Ruth or Esther but less religious.
Or maybe like Charlotte / Edith / Irene ...but more Scandinavian.Astrid Viola

I have a soft spot for it, same with Agnes. But the image is different. Agnes is calm, sweet, warm, friendly. Astrid is cold and icy, proud and intelligent.I do kind of like it but I feel she could get lots of ass-jokes. There are no good nicknames and Astrid is quite harsh on a young girl.
