[Opinions] Katie
We all know that Katie is a nickname for Catherine or Catriona but one three year run at my brownies (girls 7-10) resulted in 4 Katie’s all with a different spelling. What do you think of Katie and what is your favourite spelling? The girls were:
Catie
Caty
Katie
KatyVita Brevis
Ars Longa
Occasio Praeceps
Experimentum Periculosum
Iudicium Difficile

I like Katy, because I never see it.

I prefer it as a nickname for Katherine rather than as a given name. My favorite spelling is Katie.

I think this was probably the most popular name amongst my contemporaries growing up (80s baby, grew up in the 90s). Some were just Katie, and some were Katherine or a variant called Katie. I don't recall any Caitlins or Kaitlyns that I knew called Katie but there were a fair few Kathleens.I liked it then and I like it now. Its problem was overuse, but that still doesn't keep me from finding it adorable. For a long time, I preferred Kate. I probably still do, but I'm kind of cooling on it. If I had a Katherine, I might even call her Katie rather than Kate these days.

I don't like it with a C. Especially Caty - looks as if it should be Catty. I don't like it much with a K either, actually. It seems permanently juvenile. My preferred nn for Katharine etc is Kitty, so I suppose I'd take the Katy version over Katie.I was at school with a Catherine who went through a phase of calling herself Cait. That really is the pits!

I don’t mind it.

I think Katie is my favorite spelling. It's a nice nickname... pretty and dignified and wears well on many different ages. I have a good friend whose full name is Katie and it...bothers me.

My favourite spelling is Katey!I don't really vibe with the "c" spellings. And between Katie and Katy, I prefer Katie.I think it's cute but very bland. Still, I like Kathryn nn Katey a lot.

I like Catriona more than Catherine, and prefer Kate as a NN for both, but find Katie too pretty, and a bit too childish.

Wow, I thought Katie had gone out of fashion! Are these their full names?Katie is the only spelling that works for me, but Catie is okay for Catherine. The -y versions look really misspelled to me.It's okay as a nickname. I dislike it as a full name. Katherine nn Katie is super boring but fine.

My daughter-in-law goes by Katy. She has said the -y version makes sense because her name is Kathryn.

All the girls were either Catherine or Catriona with all forms of Katie as nn

So glad there are little Catriona people running around!

Ahh okay then it's nice.

It's an obnoxious, cutesy, goo-goo-ga-ga name. I picture a fat little girl with chipmunk cheeks and a terrible overbite who can't say a sentence, no matter what the sentence is, without giggling.
