I would never. Even before Melania Trump I much prefered just Melanie to it and now I cringe a bit at the sight

I think it’s very pretty. I can’t really decide if I prefer Melania or Melanie. I like both names a lot.

Ivanka, which I also think is a stunning name, sadly has the same problem.

I think it is a beautiful name and much more modern sounding than Melanie. That said I probably wouldn’t use it right now because of its association with the former First Lady. Nothing personal against her. I wouldn’t name a child Hillary or Kamala at the present time either.

It's not a bad name actually. But the association is too strong and too unpleasant. I could never use it.

I always thought it sounded a bit....medical. Sometimes these names that try hard to be pretty end up sounding like some kind of disease. It doesn't help that it had a pretty cold namesake.

Presumably OK in languages which require f names to have -a endings. In English, it looks over-ornate, like Emilia compared to the austere and tidy Emily. And I don't even like Melanie!

It'll be a while before the name stops reminding me of Melania Trump.
For now, it seems too one-person-ish ... since it was never popular in the US, it seems like it refers to her.
If it does stop seeming like that, I'll probably think it's beautiful. It's prettier than Melanie, and I like Melanie.

It is okay. Melanie seems a little dated to people born in the 1970s, and Melania is very similar.
