[Opinions] Vivian or Mia
So we've had our heart set on the name Mia. We love how it means "mine" or "beloved" and has Spanish/Italian roots. As I am Spanish and husband is Italian. We plan for a son named Sebastian. Upon researching I also found a piano-instrumental called "Mia and Sebastian's Theme Song" from the movie Lalaland, which I thought was adorable although I've yet to see the movie. Anyways, I don't like how common "Mia" is. Recently, I though of the name Vivienne and realized I could spell it "Vivian" and the -ian suffix would match "Sebastian" !!! We love how Vivian means "alive" or "full of life". Mia is so sweet whereas Vivian is a hidden gem. Thoughts? (:

Easy, use Mia Vivian! “My beloved, alive”, what a great meaning for a name. Stick with Mia and Sebastian, they sound so cute.

Vivian is far more interesting (and "fits" better with Sebastian imo) than the common, insubstantial Mia. But if you and your partner have had your hearts set on using Mia, then perhaps that is the name you should go with. Ultimately, it is your and your partner's decision, you are the ones going to be using the child's names multiple times everyday.

Mia's not that common. It's about on the same scale as Courtney was, when that was fashionable. Dwarfed by Ashley and Emily.I like both names a lot. They have different character to me. Mia seems more sophisticated and aloof to me, and Vivian seems more assertive and dynamic. Vivian is more geeky-cool and Mia is more mainstream-cool. I personally wouldn't care to make names match - either one is okay with sibling Sebastian.I think I would rather call someone Mia, and rather be called Vivian. I guess if I were you I'd try picturing different strangers who seem like they could be *my* future daughter at a different age - people who look kinda like us, and have similar personalities - as being named Mia, or Vivian, and see which feels more appealing to me personally.

I'd go with Vivian if this is your first kid. Mia sounds very young and cutesy, and it would be hard to come up with sibling names that are younger-sounding than Mia.But there are older-sounding names with the nickname Mia. Eufemia, Euphemia, Noemia, Hermia, Samia, Tamia, Mihaila, Minerva, Minodora

They are both fine. I don't really like Mia, or how it means "mine" - I think it makes it kind of grammatical and goofy, like considering "There" for a name. But, you like it. I also think it's better as a nickname, I think it's kind of infantile. It's super common. But common names are less common now than they used to be - if you look at "percentage used," even the most common names probably aren't going to be anonymous.I like Vivian and I like the meaning - and I don't really like Mia - so for me it's no question. lol There's also Viviana, which is a bit florid for me but maybe you would like it.Maybe you would consider Mia as a nickname, which would alleviate some of its commonness? Maria is the classic choice. Other ones, maybe, Melia, Meliora... uhh, Minerva... Miranda... shrugOk, not helpful thoughts! I think Mia and Sebastian go together fine, as do Vivian and Sebastian. But I think you like Mia more. Mia Vivian is a nice combo.

I agree Vivian is a hidden gem! Mia is definitely cute & you have reasons for it, however Sebastian is such a long name I feel Mia comes up short. No nickname for Mia. Little Viv & Ian would surely grow into the longer names which would age better with time. :)

Mia is an over-used name with a trite and feeble meaning; rather like Cara. I wouldn't consider it. I've always liked Vivien for a girl and Vivian for a boy, not that you get many of them. Vivien and Sebastian have endings that sound the same, and that would be close enough for me. You could use Vivien Mia if you really love it.
