I once knew a very old lady named Venus. She was unmarried, tiny and bent and a passionate Scrabble player at club level. I thought that almost any name, except perhaps Aphrodite, would have been less unkind.

I dunno, that story is kind of selling Venus for me! The idea of Venus as a tiny, wizened Scrabble goddess is pretty fricken' amazing. It gives it some soul! I think of razors when I see the name, it has no personality to me.

Surprisingly, I really love it. The only thing that makes me hesitate is that Venus is associated with love and sex. I know I wouldn't have appreciated such a namesake as a child.
