I think it's gorgeous! I also love Hortense.

I like the Spanish pronunciation, which is less "whore" ish.I actually like Hortense quite a lot.

Hortensia is one of my favourite flowers. I’m not completely convinced that it works as a human name but it might with the right middle name.

Love, sounds smooth and Victorian. Hortense is her frumpier sister.

Hortensia is one of those quirky names I have a soft spot for. I may raise a little bit of an eyebrow of I came across it IRL but overall it's still kinda cute and definitely has personality. I remember first hearing it in Matilda & thinking it stood out to me even among all of the uniquely named classmates of Matilda Wormwood which is saying something. Not sure what kind of diminutives could be derived from it yet and I haven't looked at it's name page. Sia perhaps? Sisi? Anything at the beginning is out of the question of course.

Heavy and clumsy as a name; lovely as a flower, especially the blue ones. I was at school with someone whose little sister was named Hortense, with the French pronunciation, which is neater and tidier. And then there's always the old song:Oh! oh! oh! my sweet Hortense She ain't good lookin' but she's got good sense
Before I kiss Hortense I always buy a nickles worth of peppermints
Rain makes flowers pretty I hear I hope it pours on her for a year
That would be immense Yer never met a gal like sweet Hortense

The H is silent, but I agree with you.

Hortensia reminds me of Horatia and Honoria.
It's a beautiful flower, but bad name material. It looks "stuffy" and sounds pretentious.

Ooh. I had no idea Hortensia is a flower. It looks so pretty.

It's stunning)) One of my favourite along with hyacinth and calla lily.
P.S. Unfortunately, I don't like Hyacinth as a name. And I wouldn't use Calla due to unpleasant associations in my native language.

I had no idea. Thanks for telling me. :)Hyacinth low-key sounds like the name of a drug or disease anyhow and Calla is pretty meh.
