I like both! I think Chaya is more easily integrated into an English speaking context if that matters to you. Just be aware that English speakers will say "HIGH-a" and "HIGH-m" and probably not the true "Ch-" sound that these names start with in Hebrew.
I really like both. They have an antique gravitas that's leavened by their meaning.
The sounds of both of them are not very attractive at all to me, and also not intuitive for anyone who doesn't know Hebrew. They are very definitely Jewish names and so much so that it would be really inappropriate for a non-Jewish person to use them.
Meh. Hard to pronounce.
Of the two, I prefer the feminine form, Chaya.
