[Opinions] Re: Titania
in reply to a message by Orla.
I pronounce this the American way, like the metal titanium (and also Titans), and I think it's a pretty awesome name. And I hope this doesn't become construed as a typical America-centric assumed superiority view, but I do believe our pronunciation is superior to the British English one. Why would you pass on having "titan" in a name and instead have it start with... "tit"? I don't get it.This made studying A Midsummer Night's Dream mildly amusing, in addition to the material itself. I'd been pronouncing Titania's name as tie-TAY-nee-ə on my own - which does scan with the iambic pentameter - but when class got together I learned it was, in fact, pronounced ti-TAHN-ee-ə. So now we had a name starting with "tit"... in high school. Two widely accepted pronunciations are what discourage me from using this name, despite the fact that I think it's awesome.***Please rate my personal name lists:www.behindthename.com/pnl/69381
