[Opinions] Liam, William, and Billy
First of all check out this poll (https://www.behindthename.com/polls/342221) its about what color hair the names Liam, William, and Billy had. Liam was voted to be blonde, and William and Billy had brown. This proves, in my opinion, I think that this proves that the names are very unique by themselves. What is your opinion on these three names?

Well..I know that I'm very late, but...my mame is William and I go by Will. I have Dirty Blonde hair, and it seems like it's probably going to turn brown. People say I fit my name. Throughout childhood, my hair was a golden blonde, and as a very young child, my hair was very light blonde.

They are all fine names, all connected, but all fine in their own rights too. Billy is my favourite.

Why does Liam keep getting discussed on the boards? It's such a tired name. Why all of the interest?

I imagine a William to be blonde, a Billy to have light brown hair and a Liam to have dark brown hair! I think that’s mainly based on the ones I’ve known, though.I love William nn Billy. Not keen on Liam.

William is nice, very respectable. Liam is not my cup of tea, it's too pale and weedy. Billy is great, nowadays it would be a downright vintage choice. I have never met a Billy in my life! Bill, yes, but never a Billy.

A few years I had a student in his early 20s that went by Bill or Billy! It was a surprise.

I think I see Liam as being a redhead, or perhaps strawberry blond. That may be due to the Irish vibe. William and Billy, sort of a sandy color. William is just a wonderful classic. I'm quite tired of Liam, though I did once like it a good deal. I once hated Billy. But I now prefer it to Liam.

It proves that the names are unique? I'm not getting that.I can't stand Liam, it's clenched-teeth whiny sounding and belongs strictly in Ireland where it makes some sense.
William is fine. I really don't like hearing people pronounce it Wee-um, or Wih-yum, swallowing their l's like a lot of people around here tend to do. I do think it's better with a nn.Billy is a nice, friendly nn. It works almost equally well on a grown man as on a boy, though Bill is much more of a grown-man nn to me. Will works for all of them. Willie is fun on a young boy but these days is much more typical of an older man. It also has gotten a reputation as a black man's name. All the Willies I've met have been older black guys except one, and he was a little William Junior whose dad was Will.

Yes, I agree both Liam and Billy / Bill are distinct enough from William to be separate names, just like Harry from HaroldHowever, all are mostly blonde in hair colour - mainly because I've known one Billy (not a nickname), one William aka Will and one Liam (not a nickname) and all have been blonde. In terms of fiction, I also associate William with Wolfenstein 3D (blonde) and Billy with Commander Keen (brown) but Billy's full name is William because he was named after his grandfather (the guy from Wolfenstein - yes these two game series are related in this way) so William can also be brown.Basically what I'm saying is that they're not ginger lads lmao
