[Opinions] Shiloh
This name is starting to grow on me. I never liked it much because I associated it with the female dog name from the children's book and I dismissed it as trendy. Then I started to find it refreshing on a boy. Now I prefer it on a girl. It has a similar feel as Chloe or Violet in my mind, and it's a biblical/Hebrew name, which I have a thing for.
What are your opinions? Do you find it too trendy/celebrity? Or do you think it is not common enough to be concerned about that?

Well I love it, but I love Biblical / Hebrew names, as you can see by my kids names! My DH doesn’t love it as much as I do though :)
It is 100% Jolie-Pitt to me. Okay maybe 99% and 1% Shiloh Fernandez who was awful in "Red Riding Hood". To me it is a fad-name and a celebrity name. It is better on a boy, in my opinion. But it doesn't have a nice sound and reminds me of dated names such as Shelley, Sheryl etc. It most definitely doesn't have a Chloe or Violet feel to me. More like a Payton, Paisley, Kinsley kind of feel.
On a dog it is okay. On a boy it is okay. On a girl I find it pretty bad. In general I would get ready for people thinking you totally adored Jolie/Pitt.

I once loved the name for a boy and might have considered using it. I never 9nce associated it with anything feminine. Then a random celebrity couple came along and single handedly ruined it by flipping it female. Now I don't even much like it.
Part of the reason I think it has grown on me is because it seems to be right at home with all the Hebrew origin and word names on my list. So now I’m thinking if I were to ever use it on say, a third or fourth child, people would notice the theme and the name wouldn’t read nearly as trendy.
If I used Shiloh, I would want to do so as a first name, but many of the combos I love flipped, thank you!
Hopefully Shiloh looks more at home with the other Hebrew and word names on my list, not to mention my overtly Biblical boys list.
Nora
Susannah
Shiloh
Lilith
Rosemary
Thalia (as an alt spelling of Talia)
Aliza
Iris

I feel like Shiloh's time has come and gone, even though its popularity is still climbing. It felt like a fresh trendy celebrity name twenty years ago. It's a weird early-2000s time capsule for me.
I don't exactly dislike it. I just have a very particular view of what kind of person a Shiloh is and I have to be in the right mood to appreciate it.

I like Shiloh as a GP on both genders, maybe even as a MN. I'd enjoy hearing it as a FN in real life but I find that it does have that trendy / celeb feel to it. Nice, whimsical name though.
I think of a dog.
