Do you like Sansa? Why do you think is Sansa not catching on? It has lots of exposure through "Game of Thrones".I personally like it better than Arya and Aria. Please rate my list: https://www.behindthename.com/pnl/6232

Sansa is my favorite GOT name. I always wish it caught on more as she was my favorite character in the show.

Yessss! I’m currently rewatching GoT and I’m just constantly blown away by the beauty of the name Sansa. I think it’s beyond beautiful.

I think Sansa as a character was harder for people to like. She was more complex than Arya, who was a pretty one-dimensional badass. I have heard a lot more criticism of how Sansa developed as a character. I know plenty of people who hate Sansa and find her an insufferable character, but she turned out to be one of my favourites, while Arya bored me a bit. In the same way, Sansa is harder to enjoy as a name than Arya. It's a bit weirder. Aria was already kind of trendy, so Arya didn't have to work very hard to get attention; it just put a little twist on something people already liked.I do wonder, if the names on the characters had been swapped, if Sansa would have become popular? Or if Arya/Aria would have risen as much as it did?

I don't know and I have only read the first couple of books and didn't watch the series much but I always liked Sansa better than Arya. I never really got the impression that she was unpopular. But I could be wrong.

She got more popular with time I think, she’s personally my favorite female character and the one I identified with the most, since my survival strategy is endurance rather than rebellion. There’s a frustrating tendency for some people to hate female characters who aren’t “badass”. Anyway the name itself is possibly more out there than Arya? As a name, Sansa reminds me too much of Gregor Samsa from Kafka’ s Metamorphosis.

Sansa is portrayed as more of a victim than Arya in the show, and it's basically said in the end that she'd be weak if she'd never been victimized. I was more interested in Arya's character in the books (wouldn't agree she's one-dimensional), but I hate how both of them were portrayed in 2nd half of the show.

Ahh okay, I didn't watch the show (I think I saw a few episode of the first season and that was that). I liked her in the books (I liked Arya too but not as much).

I liked Arya before I read Game of Thrones, so I think if their names were switched I might have liked "Sansa-named-Arya" more because I was already biased toward the name.

I think it just doesn't sound "cool" the way Arya does. It doesn't sound dated, but it doesn't sound fashionably namey either.
My personal impression of it is that it sounds like a brand name of detergent powder for dishes or laundry.
And the sans part also reminds me of French for without, like sans serif.
Also, the pronunciation is not obvious. Could be San-za, San-sa, Sahn-za, Sahn-sa.

I like the name. I'm not sure if it has a sound that could catch on easily though. It might also be less popular because the character in ASOIAF makes a terrible first impression.

There have been some girls named Sansa in the US.I think it sounds pleasant, but the closest names I'd heard to it originally were Sandra, Chandra, Sandrine, or *issa names, all of which seemed a bit dated, compared to Aria, Ariana, Arianna, Ariella which were rising in popularity when the show came out.I think the image people who've watched the show get from it might be similar to Anastasia (tragic little girl) but without the illustrious history...or if not that, Cersei.

Yes, it is rising as well, but not nearly as quickly as Aria, Arya.I never associated it with any dated names at all. It has such a different feel to Sandra to me (which I dislike).Hmmm yes, that is possible!
