There's something about Bernice that just doesn't appeal to me. I can't put my finger on it though. On a side note, my aunt's name is Bernice and everyone pronounces it ber-NEES except for my grandpa who pronounces it BER-nis half the time.

I prefer Berenice. It's a nice name, but I agree that there's too... something about it which is why it's never been on my favourtie name list, even though I really like the myth of Berenice and her hair.

Bernice reminds me of Bert's pet pigeon on Sesame Street. that's the only association I have. I think it could be cute, though. it's similar to Denise, but has a character of its own.

I like it. It won't be making a comeback soon, though. Maybe wait 10 years or till some big celebrity picks it up ;) For now, I prefer Berenice or Bernadette.
If you use Bernice now, she would need a "hip" middle name, something that people didn't used so much when Bernice was most popular. Bernice Olivia maybe?

It's the "type" of name I like, but I can't help but think of a crazy old lady. :b I like Bernadette MUCH more. BTW, I grew up watching "Designing Women" and there was a character named Bernice who was their friend. She was older, though not quite elderly, but she was crazy and even lived in an institution (I think) and visited the ladies every now and again. I just remember laughing uncontrollably whenever she was on screen--like once when someone gave her a Christmas tree skirt as a gift, and she wore it to a Christmas party. :) That's the only Bernice I've ever known of, so that association is burned into my brain. LOL!

I do not care for Bernice although I do know some nice women named this. It seems so old ladyish. I do love Bernadette though. I love the actress Bernadette Peters and that may be why I love it!

Did you see the movie "Hope Floats?" The little girl is named Bernice and she's very cute. Harry Connick Jr.'s character calls her, "that crazy Bernice." I love seeing names come back to life so I'm all for naming a little girl Bernice. For a mn, how about:
