[Opinions] Rhiannon
What do you think about this name? Sure it is quite special but I just can't see the appeal. Or maybe it is because in a story I am writing, I used it as an inspiration of the villain's name (which I made up since it is a fantasy story) and I simply can't get over it. But no matter what I don't think it is a good idea to use a name with such heavy mythology association, because you don't know what your children will choose to believe. What is your opinion on this?

I'm not that familiar with the myth; I do think that could potentially lend it an air of magic and gravitas, but in a low-key ordinary woman way, like Bridget could have.I'm in the US, and it does seem a bit dated to me...I knew one born in 1990, I think of Rhiannon Giddens who is in her 40s, it sounds like Shannon and Brianna...I like it, though.

When I was in high school I low-key loved Rigantona and didn't think it was over-the-top at all. I thought the nicknames Toni or Riga (ree-gah) could keep it grounded.Nowadays... it's too visually similar to rigatoni for me to enjoy it. :-(

I don't know about "heavy mythology association," since my main association is the Fleetwood Mac song. I've never met a Rhiannon in real life (though I've known plenty of Shannons) and would like to meet one.Rhiannon Adelaide

Sara Rhiannon "Rhiannon"Those are just FB acquaintances!

I had no idea the name was so common in the U.K. Here in the U.S., the main association is likely the Fleetwood Mac song - I've never met anyone in real life with the name. I genuinely think you're more likely to meet a Rhianna, or even a Rihanna, in this country (and mainly in the 20-and-under crowd).

I think it’s a lovely name. I don’t think that it matters the name comes from Celtic mythology. People are named Daphne and Jason from Greek Mythology. My own name is strongly associated with mythology and never once has it bothered me other than the fact that it is always being mispronounced.

I don't imagine anyone's children are likely to convert to Ancient Welsh belief systems. I do agree that taking a name from a religion which is currently viable and using it on a child from a different religious tradition is at best discourteous.I quite like the look and the sound of Rhiannon, but there are so many names ahead of it in the queue that I would never get around to considering it, let alone using it IRL.

I honestly like it a lot. It’s a really cool name. The only thing is that it’s a mouthful.
