I really don't think it works outside of Germany. I have met one Aussie girl with this name and I was kinda confused as to why her parents chose a name that stands out so much as being from a different culture (they weren't German). I know that for some names this isn't a problem at all but Liesel is just so striking. As a name, I find it harsh, yet it has an appeal too.
