I like this name, along with Zinnia, because they are really flashy and a bit tacky in terms of flower names. They're fun. They seem like "fun auntie" names that belong on women who are perpetually middle aged who don't give a damn about what anyone else thinks, living it up. The kind of people who laugh too loud in public and wear obnoxiously bright lipstick. I like those kinds of people, so I like Azalea. It makes me think of summer afternoons on a patio, chunky gold jewelry and hair that is a bit too red. It's a very "warm" name for me.

Zalie/Zaylie is what I'd use for a nickname, but Zae is pretty great too.

Azalea is a fun, underused flower name. Right now the only popular associations with the name are rappers (Iggy Azalea and Azealia Banks), which could be a plus or a minus.

Azalea is so sweet. I can see this name getting more popular over the next year or two actually. Just wait for a celebrity or two to use it and it will be off and running! I like Zae as a nn, that’s quite cute.
