Gladys isn't unheard of in France (https://www.meilleursprenoms.com/popularite-prenom/Gladys), even though the Breton form is, strictly speaking, Gladez. But then again, Breton names were not exactly allowed for quite some time and... you know how it goes. And then of course there was Ouida and her novel "Puck" which got translated into French in 1889.
