[Opinions] Xanadu
Either gender -- too similar to Xanax? Too fantastical, too, I think. Wdyt?

Too fantastical, gimicky, weird... I don't know. It just shouldn't be used for a real person.
I used to toy with this one in high school! Cuz I love the Coleridge poem so much. It really reflected my values at the time. Now my values are more reflected by the deep romantic chasm that cuts below it. hahaha WOW I haven't thought about that poem in a while. It's really potent. I would build that dome in air, that mighty dome, those caves of ice! My goodness.
It's a FUN sound isn't it!!! like singing bongos. I definitely Love this name. And I think it's, like, not tasteful and also fantastical. The song leans into it in the same way I want to, and shows me that it's pretttttty corny.
It IS similar to Xanax, isn't it? But Xan is a good nickname to escape to.
Yeah... it's got problems! But it's the type of name basically no spouse would ever agree to, so there's no reason not to play with it.

I knew someone in high school who had this as a middle name. I thought it was extremely cool then. I guess it still does kind of strike me as interesting in a good way - it has that teenage nostalgia glow around it.
Only for Coleridge fans.
For many years I couldn't recite that poem without crying. Can I today? The theory remains untested.
On a two-hour bus trip with a friend, after a long day in the big city, we kept awake by reciting it from memory, helping each other when we got stuck. I don't think we finished it, but it served its purpose.
Eh, it only takes about 3 minutes to recite. Maybe you're thinking of the Rime of the Ancient Mariner...
Nope! I'm only too well aware of how hard it was for us to remember Kublai Khan after many years of neglect! And stumbling blocks, like "What comes before 'in a vision once I saw'?", slowed us down dreadfully.
My first thought is Olivia newton John. Xanax isn't a thing here. I think as a name it's too out there
Oh dear, I am getting old. All I can think of is Olivia Newton John with huge hair, singing on roller skates. The movie Xanadu.
Aside from that ... I don't think of Xanax. But it does sound very gimmicky. It's still more a name for a cheesy nightclub, not a person.
Could be a middle name though... very Coleridge.

I don't like how it ends in du. Sounds like a dog name for some reason. The X beginning is cool, but it's not great all together.
